Chinese Reverse Glass Painting – Chang’e, Moon Goddess with Rabbit

This vintage Chinese reverse glass painting depicts Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, holding a white rabbit in her arms. In Chinese mythology, Chang’e lives on the moon with the Jade Rabbit, a symbol of purity, immortality, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. She is shown in flowing robes with fine hair ornaments, standing gracefully against a garden terrace with floral details.

About Reverse Glass Painting
This art form is painted on the back side of glass, viewed from the front. Artists must paint delicate details first and the background last, a highly skilled and meticulous process. Introduced to China in the 18th century, it developed into a decorative craft portraying ladies, landscapes, and mythological figures.

Condition: Wooden frame shows noticeable wear and scuffs. Please see photos.

A beautiful decorative and collectible piece, blending fine artistry with the legendary story of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess.
