"Manson was a master manipulator. I am grateful to the jury for bringing him to justice."

Dianne "Snake" Lake, former Manson family member

On January 25, 1971, Jury Foreman Herman Tubick handed the bailiff a piece of paper that said Charles Manson, Patricia Krenwinkel, Susan Atkins and Leslie Van Houten were all guilty of seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy. Less than two months later the same jury sentenced them all to the death penalty.

Herman Tubick and the other jurors were sequestered for 225 days. They were told to keep notes during the trial and Herman Tubick did just that. In 1973 he and his wife, Helen, gathered his notes and memories in a manuscript that they stuck in a drawer for posterity. This book was discovered in 2017 by their daughter, long after their passing, and given to their nephew to publish. The Tubicks knew the Manson trial was an ordeal, but they could never have imagined the relevance their book would have today.
